We just started our new math unit on fractions by calculating the fractions of different flavours in a package of candy. Sweet! Some math vocabulary that the students should be familiar with is covered in this short video.
http://www.watchknowlearn.org/Video.aspx?VideoID=778
Watch the video and draw and write examples of each math word below:
Numerator
Denominator
Proper fraction
Improper fraction
Mixed fraction
We will also be learning how to reduce fractions to their lowest common denominator. (Students will need those times table skills again.) We will also be finding equivalent fractions. This link shows you how to create equivalent fractions. http://www.watchknowlearn.org/Video.aspx?VideoID=53021. If you were able to create number patterns in our last math unit, creating equivalent fractions should be easy for you.
