Atoms

In science, we watched two videos to help us understand about states of matter.  In the first video, students learned about solids, liquids and gases.  At home, they may have done an experiment from the video to demonstrate that gas takes up space.
               1.  Put a dry tissue inside a drinking glass.
               2.  Turn it upside down and slowly push it straight down into a sink full of water.
               3.  Slowly, pull the glass out of the water and take out the tissue.  How does it feel?
The tissue stays dry because air takes up space in the glass and stops the water from getting in and making the tissue wet.

In the second video, we learned that all matter is made from atoms.  If you would like to watch it again, this is the link. http://youtu.be/1q_fW6etHzE When you watch, try answering these questions:
      What are molecules?
How many different atoms are there?
What makes one atom different from another atom?
Write down your answers and bring them to science class.
