Prevent "Summer Slide"

"Summer Slide" is when students forget some of what they have learned in the past year, during the summer vacation. Be ready to learn new things, and not re-learn old material, in September.   Here are some tips for hanging onto your skills over the summer:

Tip 1

Read! Visit your public library every week.  There are some great summer programmes for kids.
You can also download books such as, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid,  and read them without leaving home.  http://kidsspace.torontopubliclibrary.ca/stories.html

Tip 2

Practice those math skills on-line.  This site has lots of math problems and it's aligned with the Ontario Curriculum!   http://ca.ixl.com

Tip 3

Write!  Get a journal and some pens from a dollar store and make daily journal entries about things that you wonder about.  Create a scrapbook of photos and captions.
Create a Bitstrip about your travels at http://www.bitstripsforschools.com/?logout=1. The login password is the same one that we used for our media projects this term.  There's a small prize for the best entry. ***The Bitstrip project is now ready! Login after July 6th.***

Tip 4

Get outside and explore the city.  http://kidsspace.torontopubliclibrary.ca/exploretoronto.html
