Digestive Drama

We had great fun being the digestive system.  Each student played one of the parts in the system as we digested a food molecule (a bag containing scrap paper and pretend "nutrients").
The "teeth" in the mouth tear up the food.

Saliva is added to the food in the mouth.

The food is pushed down the esophagus into the stomach.

The stomach muscles mix the food with digestive juices.

The chyme is passed to the small intestine where the nutrients are removed.

The large intestine removes the extra water.

The waste is stored in the rectum until it ends up in the "toilet."
